Finca El Plátano, located in Chocamán, Veracruz, is managed by Marisol Ramírez Serrano, who grew up in a coffee-producing family. Since the age of 19, Marisol has immersed herself in the coffee industry, acquiring extensive knowledge and skills under the guidance of her father. Today, she leads the farm and also oversees a roasted coffee brand.
Situated at an elevation of 1350 meters above sea level, Finca El Plátano cultivates Bourbon, Caturra, Colombia, and Typica varieties. The farm exports approximately 30 bultos, each weighing 69 kg. She employs one full-time worker and 10 seasonal coffee pickers, with an average yield of 300.80 kg per harvest.
Coffee at Finca El Plátano is grown under shade, using worm compost for fertilization. The farm practices annual pruning and conducts five harvests each year. The coffee cherries are harvested, depulped, floated, and then rested for 20 hours before being dried in a guardiola for approximately 22 hours.
Post-processing, the coffee is stored in sacks and bags for four months before export, ensuring it retains its quality and flavor.
In addition to coffee, Finca El Plátano also cultivates bananas, showcasing its agricultural versatility. Despite the challenges, Marisol’s passion for coffee drives her to overcome obstacles and ensure the production of high-quality coffee. The farm’s dedication to meticulous cultivation and processing practices ensures that each batch meets the highest standards of excellence.
