Brewing espresso at home is lots of fun, but to keep improving we recommend a couple of things.
(Long read in bio)

First of all, you need soft water and freshly roasted coffee that's been resting for at least 1 week.✔️

Essential are a scale and timer to measure input and output weight, and keep track of your timing (pre-infusion and total shot time. The @joefrex espresso scale fits the 58 drip tray perfectly.
Add the Flair shot mirror, and watch how the basket fills during pre-infusion, if you can spot channeling and adjust pressure, etc.🧐

Next, a espresso-capable grinder. Our current favorite is the @1zpresso J-max. It's 8,8 micron steps are so small it's like a stepless grinder with easy recall.😎
We can supply you a small spraying bottle for the Ross Droplet Technique to avoid sticky grounds while grinding.

The Flair 58 has 3 preheat settings but a kettle like the @fellowproducts Stagg EKG will give you temperature control to 1ºC resolution.☕

Good puck prep is essential for proper extraction and avoiding channeling. We only recommend 2 steps. The first is the Weiss Distribution Technique. Your inner MacGyver can build a WDT tool from a cork and a 010-size guitar string!
Use the Flair funnel while you fluff up the grounds in circular motions from bottom to top. Once the surface is groomed and level, go grab the @happy_tamper !
The Happy Tamper always performs a perfect level tamp, with easily adjustable pressure.
That's it! No tapping, spinny tools, getting your fingers dirty.👌

The tips!
We now have the valve plunger upgrade kit available. The new plunger (pictured right) allows more room for water to fill the brew chamber and for air to escape. This gives a more firm/direct feel when pulling the shot, and slightly longer ratio's.
You can also fill with the plunger down, and it will fill the chamber once you lift the lever up.

Extra tip: use some food-safe, neutral taste oil to lubricate the o-rings of the plunger. This will protect them from wearing out, and gives a super-smooth experience while pulling your shot.
